Tony DeMaria (from left), M.D., director of the new Sulpizio Family CardioVascular Center, is joined by donors Rich and Gaby Sulpizio, UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and David Brenner, M.D., Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences, to toss some dirt at the Sept. 27 groundbeaking for the new center on the UCSD Medical Center campus in La Jolla.
The 128,000-square-foot, four-story center, which is expected to be completed in 2010, will centralize heart and stroke care with 20 exam rooms, four cardiac catheterization labs, four cardiac operating rooms, and expanded lab, clinical research and emergency facilities.
The Sulpizios spearheaded the construction with a $10 million leadership gift.
Housing conference will have ‘green’ theme
The San Diego Housing Federation’s 16th annual Affordable Housing and Community Development Conference is set to take place on Friday, Oct. 12 on the main campus of Point Loma Nazarene University.
The conference, themed “It’s Easy Being Green,” will run from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at 3900 Lomaland Drive.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Kimberly Vermeer, founder and principal of Urban Habitat Initiatives.
Vermeer boasts 20 years of experience in housing, finance, policy and development in the practice of greening multifamily housing.
Luncheon remarks will be provided by Lynn Jacobs, director of California Housing and Community Development.
In addition to workshops on “green” building, conference attendees will chose from sessions in design and development, housing finance, supportive housing, housing operations and other topics.
