SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW
The multi-tenant building at 7643-7645 Girard Ave. has been sold for $6.6 million to Broadway & 9th LP.
The new owner plans to upgrade the 10,700-square-foot prime retail property while keeping the three antque stores currently leasing space: Ark Antiques, Pied-e-Terre, and Skolout and Tilghman.

Nonstop flights from SD to Europe begin
With Zoom Airlines’ inaugural flight from Lindbergh Field to London, San Diego joins the ranks of American cities whose airports offer nonstop flights to Europe.
The June 23 flight carried about 200 passengers from San Diego to London’s Gatwick Airport. Zoom co-owner Hugh Boyle noted that, until now, San Diego was the largest American city without direct European air service.
Thella F. Bowens, president and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, noted that San Diego hasn’t offered transatlantic flights since 2003.
“We are thrilled to welcome Zoom into our family of airlines and are proud to be the only airport in California and on the U.S. Pacific Coast with service to Gatwick, one of London’s major airports,” Bowens said in a statement.
The flights offer economy and premium economy service, with allocated seating, meals and soft drinks included in the fare in all cabins.
Flights are available at www.flyzoom.com or by phone on (866) FLY-ZOOM (359-9666).

Firsts mark downtown residential high-rise
Ground was broken June 17 at the downtown site of San Diego’s first affordable and environmentally sustainable residential high-rise.
The Ten Fifty B building site, located at 1050 B St., will open in 2010 as a 23-story, 229-unit facility for families, individuals and seniors who earn 25 to 60 percent of the median income in San Diego County. San Diego’s Affirmed Housing Group purchased the half-acre lot for $4.7 million.
The $90 million project will include studio and one-, two- and three-bedroom units. The building will feature sustainable technologies, including photovoltaic and solar panels, energy-efficient lighting and recycled countertop and flooring materials. These features are designed to comport with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards as issued by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The building will also include 14,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floors.
San Diego’s Martinez + Cutri Architects is the designer.
