Noted surf, skate brands land at new Tilly’s
Tilly’s, a privately owned retail chain providing clothing, shoes and accessories from leading surf, skate and motocross brands, has opened its doors in La Jolla.
Boasting Quiksilver, Billabong, Roxy and Hurley as just a few of its most popular offerings, Tilly’s is now located in La Jolla Village Square along Villa La Jolla Drive. A grand opening celebration took place Saturday, June 23.
The demographics of La Jolla fit perfectly with Tilly’s West Coast lifestyle appeal “” not to mention that the company loves the San Diego area, according to Hezy Shaked, Tilly’s chairman and co-CEO.
Founded in 1982 when the first Tilly’s opened in Los Alamitos, the chain will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. It now has 67 stores throughout California, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado, with five of those in San Diego County.
The grand opening event was hosted live by 91X FM.
Tilly’s stays active in its stores’ communities by participating in school fundraising and reading incentive programs, such as Newspapers in Education, according to the company’s vice-president of marketing.
The company opened two stores over the past two weeks in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties. Both were successful, drawing between 300 and 400 people, many of whom camped out in lawn chairs in the store’s parking lot in order to be the first through the doors, the vice-president said.
Tilly’s hopes the community will enjoy the new store, company officials said.
