A burglar who took $23,900 worth of property from a La Jolla widow has been sentenced to five years in prison, and his co-defendant is awaiting sentencing on April 14. Justin Jeffrey Naranjo, 28, was ordered to pay the victim $23,900 in compensation for the goods, which included four flat-screen televisions, jewelry, $800 in cash and a 16-piece silverware set. It is expected that co-defendant Jose Luis Delgado, 19, will be ordered to share the restitution order with Naranjo, whose sentenced was delayed by San Diego Superior Court Judge Michael Groch. The burglars entered the Rodeo Drive home of the 83-year-old woman through a kitchen window on July 13, 2015. One suspect ripped off a necklace her husband had given her from around her neck, according to court records. DNA evidence taken from the television cable connectors got a match to Naranjo, who was later arrested in San Bernardino. He is from Highland, Calif. Naranjo was sentenced by Groch to four years in prison after pleading guilty to burglary. Groch added one year consecutively for elder theft, as the victim was over 65 years old. Naranjo was given credit for serving 111 days in jail after his Nov. 5 arrest. He was fined $2,363. Delgado also pleaded guilty to burglary and elder theft. He could get seven years in prison and remains in jail.
