SAN DIEGO HUMANE SOCIETY HOSTING VIRTUAL KITTEN SHOWER

The San Diego Humane Society is hosting a Virtual Kitten Shower to help raise donations for the many supplies needed for their Kitten Nursery, which will hold thousands of kittens this year. The online event begins on Tuesday, March 12 and will last through Sunday, March 31. SDHS accepts donations of kitten formula, bottles, heating pads, scales and blankets. Supplies can be sent directly to the Kitten Nursery.

BIRCH AQUARIUM ANNOUNCES GREEN FLASH SUMMER CONCERT LINEUP 


Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and UC San Diego are transforming its Tide Pool Plaza into an outdoor music venue. These lively summer concert series, presented in partnership with 101.5 KGB and Belly Up Entertainment, combines live music with panoramic ocean views, stunning sunsets, and admission to the aquarium.


The lineup for the 14th annual Green Flash Summer Concert Series is:

  • May 22:  Tommy Castro & The Painkillers
  • June 19: Wild Child
  • July 17: Pine Mountain Logs & Venice
  • Aug. 14: The Mother Hips
  • Sept. 18: 10,000 Maniacs

All concerts are held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and are general admission and standing room only. Savory bites, craft beers and wine are available for purchase. Single tickets are on sale now for $33 for Birch Aquarium members, $38 in advance for the general public. Day of show general admission tickets are $44.

UC SAN DIEGO GAINS NEW MULTI-CONTINENTAL PARTNERSHIP TO USHER IN NEXT GENERATION OF ECONOMIC DIPLOMATS

The School of Global Policy and Strategy joins forces with Paris School of International Affairs, the Graduate School of International Studies in Seoul, Korea, and HEC Montreal for the launch of a new program to offer coordinated academic year curricula, collaborative case studies and faculty exchanges. Students will receive a certificate upon completion and compete for a coveted summer internship.

No matter the continent, students begin in fall 2019 with a course on economic diplomacy, the training for which prepares them for a summer 2020 internship at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The center will also host events and guest speakers.

UC SAN DIEGO’S SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, MEDICINE, AND MANAGEMENT RANKED AMONG TOP PROGRAMS IN NATION

U.S. News & World Report released its 2020 guidebook that ranked UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Medicine and Rady School of Management among the nation’s top graduate programs and professional schools.

UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering 11th overall in the U.S., up one spot from last year; and 6th in the nation among public engineering schools. The Jacobs School’s bioengineering graduate program ranks 5th in the nation. The UC San Diego School of Medicine is 21st in the U.S. among research-intensive programs, up one spot compared to last year, and is 6th among public medical schools. And the Rady School of Management part-time MBA program soared 21 spots from 56th last year to 35th on this year’s list. Among public universities, it is 22nd best.

Data from previous U.S. News surveys also indicated that UC San Diego graduate programs demonstrate broad strengths in the sciences and social sciences as well the arts and humanities.

LA JOLLA TOWN COUNCIL RESCHEDULING ‘FORUM ON TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS’ 

The La Jolla Town Council is rescheduling its “Forum on Transportation Options.” The monthly business portion of the LJTC meeting will be held electronically and the results of the meeting will be posted to their website, lajollatowncouncil.org, including the new date and time for the Forum.

The next regular meeting of the Town Council will be held April 11 and will include a Public Safety Forum on Homelessness, including the results of the count and housing options.

CHINESE INK BRUSH PAINTING EXHIBITION COMES TO LA JOLLA

HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR COMING TO BARNES & NOBLE IN POINT LOMA

Fanny Krasner Lebovits was nineteen when Nazis invaded her home in Liepaja, Latvia, killing her father and most of the Jewish men in the town. She went on to lose 79 family members and survived both the Libau ghetto and five different concentration camps. Her memoir shares her inspirational story of loss, resilience, and survival and the joys and challenges she faced as she rebuilt her life and family on three continents.
