Ocean Beach residents prepare to flip for flapjacks as the Ocean Beach Geriatric Surf Club hosts its 16th annual Ocean Beach Pier Breakfast on Sunday, Oct 15, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Along with the pancakes, volunteers will cook up eggs and sausage and serve fresh fruit as well as a variety of delicious pancake toppings, thanks to the Ocean Beach Pier Café, who offer their facilities. Orange juice, milk, coffee and champagne will also be available.
This year, guests can rock out to the music of Gary Seiler and Ron Bell, a San Diego duo who write and play their own music as well as cover their favorite songs, including Jimmy Buffet hits. Guests could also win prizes, such as a fishing trip with H & M Landing or a beach cruiser, by participating in the raffle.
The event, sponsored by the Ocean Beach Tree Committee (a subcommittee of the Ocean Beach Town Council), is the first in a series of holiday-oriented fund-raisers which benefit local charities. Last year, over 80 less fortunate families and the battered women’s shelter became recipients of at least a week’s worth of holiday food and age-appropriate wrapped gifts.
The pier fills up fast, and guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $4 for children and are available at Java Beach Coffee House, 4723 Point Loma Ave.; Dog Beach Dog Wash, 4933 Voltaire St.; Surf and Sea, 1874 Bacon St.; Sunshine Company Saloon, 5028 Newport Ave.; South Coast Surf Shop, 5023 Newport Ave.; or at the Ocean Beach Farmer’s Market on Newport Avenue, one block from the beach at their information booth.
