SAN DIEGO – A five-year-old boy died at Rady’s Children’s Hospital Nov. 8 as a result of a canoeing accident in Mission Bay on Nov. 6, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office. Keona Kazuo Ferreira of Escondido was initially transported via ambulance to Scripps Hospital after his father pulled him from Mission Bay after their 18-foot Coleman canoe capsized, said Lt. James Filley of the San Diego Police Department’s Northern Division. The Medical Examiner’s Office does not yet know the cause of death. “All indications at this point show that this was nothing more than a tragic accident,” Filley said. The investigation is ongoing.
