A man in a wetsuit was found dead this morning in the surf near a popular oceanfront restaurant at Belmont Park.
San Diego city lifeguards contacted police at about 5 a.m. after someone reported a body had drifted to shore close to the Cannonball restaurant on Ocean Front Walk near West Mission Bay Drive.
San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson said the body was that of an about 50-year-old man. The body had no obvious signs of trauma, and personnel from the county medical examiner’s office would determine how the man died.
The victim’s name was not immediately available.
