Bishop's Science Center honors Teitelmans

The Bishop’s School recently honored its headmaster and his wife and in the process made sure students studying science will have the best education at their fingertips.
The science building, which was completed three years ago, was recently named the Michael and Marlene Teitelman Science Center. Contributions in the amount of $4.6 million were given by a small group of donors to name the building in recognition of the couple. This $4.6 million completed the facility’s $10 million cost.
Last month at the annual 1909 Club dinner held at the Evans Garage and hosted by the Evans and Cherashore families, Board President Brad Geier announced that a group of Bishop’s donors had quietly raised the funds necessary to name the recently constructed science building after the Teitelmans.
More than 350 guests were present at the 1909 Club event to hear the news, as well as Geier’s announcement that The Bishop’s School has raised $33 million toward a $60 million Centennial Campaign goal.
“In the fall, the entire Bishop’s community will be asked to support the Centennial Campaign during the 100th anniversary year,” Geier said.
The campaign’s goal is to raise $30 million for endowment. The campaign also seeks to raise $30 million for facilities and the completion of the school’s Campus Master Plan that will provide world-class facilities, taking Bishop’s into a second century of excellence.
In discussing the science center’s new name, Geier noted that Teitelman and his wife have served The Bishop’s School for nearly 25 years.
“Students, alumni and parents are all enormously proud of the Teitelmans and their numerous contributions to the school,” Geier said. “Generations of Bishop’s students to come will benefit from this state-of-the-art facility, which supports a secondary school science program that is among the best in the country.
“The Michael and Marlene Teitelman Science Center is part of a broader Campus Master Plan, the next phase of which will see the addition of the new Manchester Library and Learning Center. Ultimately, a new Arts & Athletics building will be added as well.”
