Bishop's School lacrosse looks to stick to success

The Bishop’s School boys and girls lacrosse teams hope to stick to winning this spring.
On the girls side, Bishop’s went 11-6 (8-2 league) a season ago for head coach Meghan Carr.
Key players this season look to include seniors Jacqueline Rhodes (defender) and Emily Johnson (attack); juniors Ali Bishop, Haley Geier, Jameson Kearney, Caroline Markham (midfield), Emily Reit (attack) and Felicity Bradley (goalie); and sophomores Hillary Halter and Camilla Johnston (defense).
“We have a strong group returning this year, although we did graduate five senior starters,” Carr said. “The juniors in the midfield are fast and quick to the ball. The key this year is to be consistent in our intensity as a team both in practice and games. We are looking to be contenders for the Coastal League title and a top 10 seed in the CIF playoffs.”
In recent action, Bishop’s posted a 13-3 win over Serra. The Lady Knights got three goals from Emily Johnson to lead the way.
“I was really pleased with their aggression off the draw and their midfield transitions,” Carr commented. “I was particularly impressed with the strength of senior Jacqueline Rhodes on the draw. Both Jameson Kearney and Ali Bishop came up big in this game, with Bishop picking up 11 ground balls and Kearney forcing major turnovers.”
On the boys side, head coach Steve Sepeta and the Knights were 12-6 a season ago, losing to Poway in the CIF quarterfinals.
Sepeta said key players this season should include Conner Thomas (attack), Tighe Thomas (midfield), Mike D. Jensen (midfield), Mike P. Jensen (midfield), Nick Eggemeyer (defense) and Jack Kelly (goalie).
“This is a bit of a rebuilding year for us, having lost a few key starters from last year,” Sepeta remarked. “Our team has a lot of potential but it will take us some time to find our groove.”
” Editor’s note: La Jolla High and La Jolla Country Day School were asked to provide information.
