The Bishop’s School and La Jolla High girls soccer teams both hope the 2010 season nets them some more championships. At The Bishop’s School, the Lady Knights under head coach Brian Quinn finished 16-5-3 and won Coastal South as well as CIF last winter. Bishop’s beat Parker in the CIF final 2-1 in OT. In the semifinals of the state playoffs, Bishop’s fell to eventual state champion Desert Christian, 2-1. “This year has started off well for the girls, as they have an 8-2-1 record as we speak, and recently won the Cathedral Catholic tournament by defeating Orange County powerhouse San Clemente (2-0) in the final,” Quinn said. Key players this season look to be seniors Frances Harvey and Sarah Noble; juniors Kaylie Davidson, Laura Aguilar and Devan Osegueda; sophomores Maya Theur and Jenn Akin; and freshman Geny Decker. “It seems both La Jolla Country Day School and Canyon Crest have improved but the favorite this year, I believe, is Francis Parker, as they have a senior-laden class with a lot of talent,” Quinn said. “Our schedule against the Division 1 and Division 2 schools will help prepare us for league play that starts in January.” At La Jolla High, the Lady Vikings under head coach Kristin Jones finished 17-3-2, finishing as Western League and CIF champions, with a second-place finish at States. Jones noted that key returnees are junior Callan Parra and senior Brianna Chapman on offense, senior sweeper Courtney Volger and senior defender Jessica Wood. “This year we face a different battle,” Jones said. “We have a very strong team but need to find a way to carry over from last year without dwelling on our success. We need to put in the work at practices to keep improving so that we can reach the same level of play as last year. The team is young but has all the potential in the world.” — Editor’s note: La Jolla Country Day School did not respond with information on its team prior to press time.
