Several area soccer teams are having a kick this winter.
On the girls side, The Bishop’s School came into play this week with a record of 9-3-1 for head coach Brian Quinn.
The Lady Knights are unbeaten since losing their first three games of the season. “We have only conceded one goal in the last 10 games,” Quinn noted. “The whole defense deserves credit ” Hannah Krentler-Brown, Bree Geary, Stevie Griglak, Laurel Casey, Cassie Dreher and Lia Sagerman.”
On the offensive side, Annie Kadota and Lindsey Holman-Kelley lead the team.
“One of the most pleasing aspects for me has been the contributions from the freshmen,” Quinn said. “Both Laura Aguilar and Kaylie Davidson have made major contributions, and the future is bright for the girls varsity team at Bishop’s. Our goal is to be one of the top three seeds at CIFs.”
La Jolla High sports a 14-1-2 mark (3-1-2 league) heading into action this week. The Lady Vikings scored a 3-0 win over Christian last week, with Maddy Sharp and Callen Para notching goals. Lauren Steinmetz got the shutout in goal for La Jolla.
La Jolla Country Day School dropped a pair of games last week, falling to Francis Parker 3-0 and Bishop’s 2-0.
On the boys side, La Jolla High entered play this week at 8-5-2 overall (2-4 Western League) for head coach Dan Berthiaume.
Key players of late have included Chris Estrada, who has gone from not getting much playing time to being a starter. Berthiaume also noted the play of goalie Austin Miller.
Berthiaume said the team was doing well until the winter break.
“We need to get an attitude adjustment if we are going to salvage anything from the league and make the playoffs,” Berthiaume said.
La Jolla Country Day School came into action this week at 15-2-2, 4-1 in Coastal South play.
In a 2-0 win over Francis Parker last week, Zach Wolfenzen tallied both goals.
LJCD finished the week with a 3-0 loss to The Bishop’s School. Adam Saven, Kees Thompson, Travis Golia and Philip Poyhonen played well in the loss.
” Editor’s note: The Bishop’s School boys program did not respond to requests for information on the team.
