Bike to Work Day is a national event celebrated annually on the third Friday in May as part of National Bike Month and was originated by the League of American Bicyclists in 1956 to increase public interest in biking and promote it as an alternative for commuting to work. Bike to Work Day San Diego will take place Friday, May 20. The local event is organized by the SANDAG iCommute program in conjunction with local jurisdictions, businesses, and other partners and offers 101 pit stops (including one at the Pacific Beach Library, 4275 Cass St., from 6 to 9:30 a.m.) where riders can stop to pick up a free T-shirt, snacks, and receive encouragement to re-energize along the road.
