Bike for Boobs around Shelter Island on Oct. 16

As San Diego celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, The Wine Pub in Point Loma adds another color to the local autumn palette with its widely popular bicycle ride and fundraiser, Bike for Boobs.
On Sunday, Oct. 16, the fourth annual event returns to raise money for The Breast Cancer Fund, an organization dedicated to exposing and eliminating the environmental causes of breast cancer and stopping the disease before it starts. Beginning at 3 p.m., pretty-in-pink supporters will rendezvous on two wheels to join the San Diego County Bike Coalition and Wheel Women of San Diego for a leisurely bike ride around Shelter Island.
Post pedaling, guests will reunite at The Wine Pub for drinks, appetizers, live music, silent-auction items and one grand auction prize that has included an electric pink bicycle in years past.
The event hits close to home for friends and family of The Wine Pub after owner Sandy Hanshaw underwent treatment for stage-three breast cancer in the fall of 2013.
“When I started Bike for Boobs three years ago, two wheels and pink tutus helped me through one of the greatest challenges of my life,” said Hanshaw. “Today, as a survivor, the event reminds me how fortunate I am to have a supportive community helping women change everyday habits to reduce our risk of breast cancer.”
In 2015, The Wine Pub raised close to $8,000 for The Breast Cancer Fund– an amount Hanshaw hopes to beat this year. The fund has remained the sole beneficiary of Bike for Boobs since its inception in 2012.
To reserve your spot in the two-wheeled pink parade with a suggested $25 donation, visit www.thewinepubsd.com. The Wine Pub also accepts donations to the Breast Cancer Fund from those who cannot attend.
The Wine Pub, at 2907 Shelter Island Drive, brings neighbors and friends together for a simply elegant dining experience in a cozy environment. For more information, visit www.thewinepubsd.com.
