Did you know that the Rewild Mission Bay project is helping the environment by restoring wetlands? The Rewild Mission Bay project is restoring 170 acres of wetlands in Mission Bay. I think that we should save the wetlands and support the Rewild Mission Bay project because I believe it could help the environment.
Why are wetlands so important and why should we save them? Wetlands, or marsh, are important because they help humans, animals and nature.
Wetlands also help protect us humans by helping to prevent floods by acting like a sponge. Wetlands can also hold water during a drought. This is helpful because wetlands are home to 144 bird species and 56 plant species. Plants like pickleweed help filter water before it enters the bay. No one wants a bay that’s polluted. Unfortunately, the small marsh that remains is not attached to the Rose Creek watershed. But, this project plans to reattach the marsh to the Rose Creek watershed. If you agree that wetlands are important, and you want to show your support for the Rewild Mission Bay Project, come to the community workshop on 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at Mission Bay High School. Allie Huynh is a fifth grade student at High Tech Elementary.
