San Diego Humane Society’s Law Enforcement Officers seized more than 80 birds from a one-bedroom apartment in Rancho Bernardo on Jan. 23. Most of the birds were cockatiels flying freely inside the unit, living in unsanitary conditions. 
Each bird will be examined by a San Diego Humane Society veterinarian in our mobile unit on scene, before being brought to our San Diego Campus at 5500 Gaines St. for further examination.
For the safety of the animals and our staff, the birds will be placed under quarantine and monitored by our medical team for any type of disease.
“It is extremely sad to see animals living like this, but we are glad we are able to get these birds the care they need,” said Sgt. Laurel Monreal.
This case is an open Humane Law Enforcement investigation. Officers will continue to collect information before determining how to proceed.
