Beauty and the Beast’ takes stage at JCC
The J*Company Youth Theatre announces a production of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.” The show will run March 9 through 25 at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center’s David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre, 4126 Executive Drive.
The performance is directed by J*Company’s artistic director Joey Landwehr, who has also worked as an actor and director in New York City; musical director Rayme Sciaroni, who directed J*Company’s production of “Guys & Dolls” and more recently was musical director for “Oliver!” The set for the performance was done by Tony Award nominee David Weiner.
Sixty-eight children will participate in the show, including Dorothy Guthrie as Belle and Phillip Bowen as the beast.
Tickets for “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” are $12.50 for children and $16.50 for adults, and are available online at www.lfjcc.org or by calling (858) 362-1348. A complete list of production dates and times is online at www.lfjcc.org/jcompany.
The JCC’s J*Company Youth Theatre is an award-winning program of the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture.
In related news, the J*Company will hold auditions for its next show, “The Story of Hansel and Gretel,” from 4 to 7 p.m. on March 12 and 13. Call-backs will take place March 14, 4 to 6 p.m.
Auditions are open to children ages seven through 13. Those ages seven to 10 must be enrolled in a J*Company class for Spring 2007.
Children should have prepared a classic musical theater selection of their choice, and bring a resume and headshot or snapshot.
Pre-audition vocal lessons are available, as well as sheet music from the J*Company’s music library. For information, call (858) 362-1155.

“The Story of Hansel and Gretel” will run May 11 to 20.
