Arts Around La Plaza: La Jolla’s newly-renovated gathering, exhibition space

La Plaza La Jolla joined forces with Monarch/Arredon Contemporary Gallery to currently host Arts Around La Plaza, a three-tier series of community arts and cultural events that showcase art, music, dance and lectures. The artistic merge has also introduced Adgy Art, a gallery that represents “pivotal contemporary artists and their masterworks in painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and video.”
The Monarch/Arredon Contemporary Gallery highlights emerging and mid-career artists. Noted to be founded on “respect, passion and trust,” the La Jolla site offers high-quality, crafted artworks and category expertise to collectors, art professionals and art enthusiasts. La Jolla’s Monarch/Arredon Contemporary Gallery’s owner and director Elsie Arredondo described Arts Around La Plaza as a work of love created to invite the commercial mainstream public in while garnering the attention of the serious art community. “Arts Around La Plaza is a collaboration,” said Elsie Arredondo, owner and director of the Monarch | Arredon Contemporary Art Gallery. “And community thrives through collaborations. Arts Around La Plaza will benefit not just locals and visitors, but La Jolla’s business community. Under the umbrella of Monarch | Arredon Contemporary Gallery, La Plaza La Jolla and Adgy Art, we proudly present artists, performing artists, musicians, dancers and poetry readings to make La Plaza La Jolla a happening place.”
Determined to incite new and exciting energy, Arredondo is always looking for “fresh ways to offer our artists additional exposure” while evolving to cater “with a broader appeal to collectors.” “We’re constantly modifying the Monarch model in order to reach a broader audience,” she continued. “We work with academically centered art as well as artists that push the envelope. Those with a proven track records not only shown in art galleries throughout the U.S., but in auction houses abroad.”
Arredondo and her team are also introducing photography, a medium not currently exhibited. Arts Around La Plaza will debut at Adgy Art with ‘Landscapes,’ a solo exhibition by Thomas Lamprecht, acclaimed artist, composer and art theorist. The La Jolla resident’s collection will “superimpose linear interpretations” of classical imagery that include famous, political and socially meaningful objects to “create a narrative on the dichotomy of life’s truths.” Additional calendar events also include an “Evening of Flamenco,” featuring Flamenco Arana, a San Diego-based Spanish Flamenco dance organization on Saturday, Aug. 26. Edward Fishwick will be playing the guitar, Juan de Dios will be singing and Kristina Cobarrubia, Flamenco Arana’s director, will perform alongside the company ensemble. Artist Lei Tang will discuss his figurative abstract work currently on exhibit on Sunday, Aug. 27. Andre Desjardins will be on display through Sept. 3. Marilu Salinas will host his concert, “Free the Heart,” on Saturday, Sept. 2. Renovated by Davlyn Investments in 2015, La Plaza La Jolla is a three-story, 27,000 square-foot, open-air shopping center that blends Southern California ambience with Spanish and Moroccan design. Noted to “encapsulate luxurious coastal living,” the center includes a “curated selection of boutique retailers, dining options and premier personal services.” “It’s been my pleasure to see La Plaza La Jolla become a gathering place for locals,” said Jon Williams, chief executive officer of Davlyn Investments.  “We’re thrilled to partner with Elsie Arredondo to give the community the opportunity to engage with the arts with our beautiful plaza as the backdrop.”
