On Wednesday, Dec. 5, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the San Diego Police Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding an assault at 3900 Rosecrans St. near the I-5 overpass. San Diego Police officers responded to the scene. When they arrived, they found a 57-year old white male with trauma to his upper body. Medics arrived and the male was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Homicide investigators were called to the scene and are handling the investigation. According to a witness, the victim was on the ground and the suspect was hitting him with an object. The suspect fled the scene and was not located. The victim was identified as 57-year old Gregory Freeman. Mr. Freeman eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on Dec. 8. The suspect was described as a black male, in his 20s, wearing a yellow poncho and blue jeans. Christian Ewing, 29, was arrested on Dec. 21 for a parole violation. He was rebooked for the murder of Gregory Freeman and he will be arraigned on Dec. 27 at 1:30 p.m. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
