Annual Athenaeum Summer Festival to feature local favorite Gustavo Romero and other live music to check out

The 21st annual Athenaeum Summer Festival will take place on consecutive Sundays, June 30 through July 21. Once again featuring performances from acclaimed pianist and former San Diegan Gustavo Romero, the concerts will be the first part of a two-part series showcasing the initial half of Beethoven’s 32 sonatas.

The reason for Romero’s continued return to the Athenaeum for these festival dates is significant; a “thank you” to the institution where Romero gave his first performance at the age of 10, back in 1976. Now a respected concert pianist and educator based in Texas, Romero’s connection to the Athenaeum remains strong, as evidenced by his continued support and wonderfully curated programs. For anyone who enjoys the classics or virtuoso piano playing, it doesn’t get any better than Romero’s heartfelt performances.

Summer Festival with Gustavo Romero: Sunday, June 30 and July 7 at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, 1008 Wall St. 4 p.m. All ages. $40 members and $45 nonmembers. Visit ljathenaeum.org for more information.
