The Downtown San Diego Partnership will recognize the people, projects and programs that have significantly contributed to the revitalization and renewal of Downtown on Thursday, Nov. 8 with its annual Alonzo Awards, to be held at the U.S. Grant.
Awardees for the 2007 Alonzo Awards include:
Christie’s Place, recognized with the Vic Kops PhD Humanitarian Award, for its hard work, dedication and commitment to women, children, families and individuals whose lives have been impacted by HIV/AIDS.
Terry Arnett, recognized with the Chairman’s Award. Arnett, President and CEO of TSA Contracting, is being recognized for his continued contributions to the Partnership as well as his innovative, high-profile projects that have enhanced the Downtown landscape, including the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame Bar and Grill and The Ivy Hotel.
Smart Corner, recognized with an Alonzo Award for its trend-setting multi-agency approach to urban planning that seeks the benefits of a close connection between jobs and housing and provides an opportunity to live and work Downtown without a car. The mixed-use transit-oriented project combines affordable housing, office buildings and retail to create a truly unique smart growth approach to Downtown living.
DiamondView Tower, located just beyond Petco Park’s right field fence, recognized with an Alonzo Award for bringing a unique and distinctive 305,300- square-foot Class-A office building downtown.
Developer Cisterra Partners, architect Carrier Johnson and general contractor Reno Construction created the first Class-A office tower to be built next to a major league ballpark and only the second high-rise built in Downtown San Diego in 15 years.
Flexcar, recognized with an Alonzo Award for its excellence in providing a service that reduces congestion, air pollution and energy use, increases use of public transit and contributes to sustainable communities. With almost 30 vehicles located throughout the Downtown area, Flexcar offers urbanites and business travelers a reliable alternative to Downtown transportation.
The Downtown San Diego Partnership was formed in 1993 with the merger of two prominent business associations: San Diegans Inc. (formed in 1958) and the Centre City Association (formed in 1952).
Today, the partnership has more than 325 members and serves as the leading advocate for Downtown economic development, residential living, entertainment and the arts.
The 2007 Alonzo Awards will be held at the U.S. Grant Hotel, 326 Broadway in Downtown, at 5:30 p.m. For more information visit www.dtsd.org.
