Afghan-American, civil rights advocate, and co-founder of Borderlands for Equity a pro bono civil rights nonprofit, Mejgan Afshan, announced her candidacy Wednesday for La Mesa City Council in front of La Mesa City Hall.
Afshan is going up against La Mesa resident and councilmember Laura Lothian. Lothian was elected to the council in November of 2021.
There are two seats up for grabs in La Mesa and the Democrats have an opportunity to take both, which will secure their voice on the MTS and SANDAG boards.
