The City Scene apartments, located at 4105 Georgia St., in North Park, is an affordable apartment complex in development by the Affirmed Group. Scheduled for completion in March 2012, the complex should be open for tenants in April.
Within the 31-unit complex will be two 1-bedroom units, five 2-bedroom units and twenty-four 3-bedroom units.
Jim Silverwood, president of the Affirmed Group, said the company has been in business for 18 years and has developed affordable housing projects like City Scene across California. “We work with cities and counties and the state of California to help them meet their housing goals to house persons of lower and moderate income and again to achieve their goals of housing for all persons; persons of all income ranges,” he said.
Silverwood explained there were certain funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) used in developing this project.
He continued to explain that a broker in their group discovered a partially built and abandoned condominium complex in North Park and decided to utilize that space. “We brought the development opportunity to the City of San Diego, specifically to the San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC), and… said we would like to work with them and utilize these NSP funds, which were specifically for foreclosed properties to help stimulate the economy [and] create jobs,” Silverwood said.
The apartments will be built with solar panels on the roof and an underground parking structure, including special parking for those using sustainable transportation methods such as carpooling or biking.
