Arenal de Gomez will face Rebels SC in the UPSL Southern California South Conference final on Saturday, Dec. 10 at San Diego Mesa College.
ADG FC earned its trip to the championship match after a 4-2 victory over Escondido FC on Dec. 3 with goals from forward Adalberto Castellanos Gonzalez in the 6th minute, midfielder Andy Mendoza in the 19th minute, forward Irvin Mojica in the 35th minute and forward Cesar Romero in the 62nd minute.
“The team came in prepared for this game as they always are,” said ADG FC head coach Ray Gutierrez. “We were focused on what we had to do and played well from the very beginning. Once the score was in our favor we knew how to manage the game from there.”
The last time that Arenal de Gomez and Escondido FC faced each other was in the regular season finale on Nov. 20 with the game ending in a 0-0 draw which locked in ADG FC as the first seed and Escondido FC as the four seed.
Rebels SC earned its trip to the final after a 2-1 road victory over Murrieta Soccer Academy on Sunday, Dec. 4. Rebels came in as the third seed beating Chula Vista FC in the quarterfinal round. Arenal de Gomez FC and Rebels SC played each other once during the regular season back on September 11 which saw ADG come out with a 3-1 victory.
“We all know what we have to do and what is still in front of us in the final,” Gutierrez added. “We treat every game like its a final and play with the same effort against every opponent.”
The UPSL Southern California South final is at 5 p.m. on Saturday at San Diego Mesa College.
