In an effort to condense inventory and increase customer service, Adelaide’s has closed its second store at 7743 Fay Ave., moving goods and employees about a block over to the main floral shop at 7766 Girard Ave. “We were stretching our resources,” said Adelaide’s sales manager Genevieve Balicki. “To Adelaide’s, customer service is the most important thing. We decided a few weeks ago to move [everything] over here to give customers the best service.” Adelaide’s Fay Avenue shop held most of the store’s floral silk inventory, Balicki said. But the La Jolla floral specialty shop — which opened along a San Diego road in 1936 — uses real and silk flowers, catering to retail shoppers or events such as birthdays, weddings and parties, Balicki said. “Silks have been getting so beautiful. You can go from low maintenance to no maintenance,” Balicki said. Though Adelaide’s caters weddings and events, Balicki says daily customers make up the bulk of the store’s sales. “We’re transferring all our silks but we still have our main store. All the silk flowers are over here,” Balicki said. “We’re in the process of closing [the other store]. By the end of this month it will officially be closed.” Despite the Fay Avenue store’s unofficial closing date at the end of July, Balicki said customers should come to Adelaide’s main store at 7766 Girard Ave. For more information, visit www.adelaidesflowers.com or call (858) 454-0146.
