The San Diego chapters of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) have teamed up to present the first ASID and NKBA Kitchen and Bath Tour, Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The self-guided tour will feature 12 beautifully designed homes in San Diego County with newly remodeled spaces. Located from Carlsbad to Coronado, the tour showcases an array of tastes, lifestyles, and personal preferences. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of professional interior design in meeting specific objectives. Among the homes featured is the Fletcher Hills kitchen (pictured above), designed by Kim Moffat.

Projects feature the latest trends in flooring, surfaces, appliances, color, lighting, sustainability, materials, technology and universal design.

“This is a beautiful opportunity to see some of the best kitchen and bath designs in San Diego,” said Becky Zoni-McMakin, chair of the event. “This joint tour is a natural collaboration since many featured designers are members of both organizations,” she added.

The homes on tour are as diverse as the personalities of their owners and include a vast range of design styles from modern and traditional to California coastal.

Highlights include:

· A Mt. Helix home with indoor and outdoor kitchens. The outdoor cooking and entertainment area features a live-edge bar top with an overhead structure. The indoor kitchen boasts a large trapezoid-shaped island with a Midcentury coastal feel.

· A newly built, stylish and functional 1,200-square-foot Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in Carlsbad, which features a kitchen, two baths and two bedrooms.

· A Bay Park kitchen designed to satisfy the diverging tastes of a couple. (One asked for sleek, minimalist design; the other wanted warmth, texture and character.)

· A “Transitional Transformation” in Kensington is designed to meet the aesthetic taste of the client, while respecting the transitional style of the home and taking advantage of amazing views.

· A Rancho Santa Fe home with an accessible bath for aging in place.  The design incorporates a stunning mother-of-pearl mosaic vanity sink, rock crystal lighting pendants and Italian-designed sleek fold-down bars on either side of the toilet.

· A North Park remodel with a breakfast nook highlighted by a peninsula waterfall, additional prep sink, glass cabinets and open shelving.

“This tour shows how designers can create beautiful interiors which reflect the budgets, lifestyles, and tastes of individual homeowners,” said Sherrié Pantalon, president of the NKBA’s San Diego chapter. “An exciting revelation will be innovative tech-forward products that display the latest in connectivity,” she said.

The projects on the ASID and NKBA Kitchen and Bath Tour illustrate the dynamic collaboration among interior designers, clients and contractors. Participating designers, who will be on-site during the tour for questions, include: Alena Brooks Blasio, Sheryl Wohl Chaffee, Rebecca Flynn, Anne Kellett, Becky Zoni-McMakin, Kim Moffat, Madelene Ross, Traci Taylor, Catherine Tran and Heather Vitti.

“The tour represents a broad swatch of the top design talent in San Diego County,” said Lily Robinson, president of the San Diego ASID chapter. “There is an eclectic mix of senior design professionals with extensive experience and young designers with fresh energy and Gen Z style.

“The tour shows how designers can take gloomy, inefficient, outdated spaces and transform them into open, inviting, functional spaces that transition seamlessly to adjoining rooms and the outdoors,” Robinson said.

The 12 tour sites are located in the San Diego County communities of Mt. Helix, Carlsbad, La Costa, Rancho Santa Fe, Fletcher Hills, Bay Park, Kensington, North Park, Golden Hill, City Heights and Coronado.

Advance tickets are $30 per person via Eventbrite. The link to tickets is on the ASID San Diego website, casd.asid.org/ Day-of-event tickets for $35 will be available at all tour sites via Eventbrite. Addresses for all tour sites will be posted on the ASID San Diego website on April 29, the day of the tour. For previews and updates, the public is invited to follow @ASIDSanDiego on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
