A boys soccer goalkeeper and his coach highlighted a list of all-CIF performers from Point Loma High.
Owen Purvis was named the best goalkeeper in San Diego after playing in the net for 20 Pointer games and allowing only seven goals all season while making 113 saves. Standing 6 feet 6 inches tall, the junior received first-team all-CIF honors. He led his team to the Southern California regional championship after winning the local CIF title.
Another soccer player, Cooper Rohnow was named to the all-CIF second team. Rohnow played a key role in the team’s march to the regional championship. He has a brother Fin, a sophomore, who also plays on the Pointer team,
Purvis and Rohnow’s coach, Elliott Savitz, was named CIF Coach of the Year after his team overcame an early slump to earn both the local CIF championship (3-0 over Sweetwater High) and the state regional title (3-2 win over El Dorado High of Placentia). The current CIF crown was the third in Savitz’s tenure at the helm of the Pointer boys soccer team after wins in 2016 and 2018. He also led his team to the finals in 2019.
Girls soccer forward Charley Faucett, a senior, was named to the second team all-CIF team for her performance while leading her team to a 12-6-3 overall record and a first-place finish (6-2) in the Western League. Faucett led her team with eight assists, five more than her next teammate.
Wrestler Eve Norban was also named to a second team all-CIF team in her weight division of 118 pounds. Norban, a senior, became the first girl in Pointer history to win a CIF championship. Her title qualified her to advance to the state tournament.
