There are lots of fun events for all ages being hosted at the Mission Valley Library in April. Listings below.

April Events

Date:  Mondays, April 3 and 10, 2023
Time:  1:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Title:  Free Tax Preparation Clinic
The San Diego Public Library has partnered with the nonprofit Home Start to offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. Appointments are required! Call Home Start’s Appointment Number at 619-952-7684 or email [email protected] to make an appointment or for more information.
Audience:  Adults

Date:  Tuesdays, April 4, 11, 18 and 25, 2023
Time:  4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Title:  Chess Club
Have you always wanted to learn how to play chess or improve your skills? If you have never played before, or are just looking for someone to practice with, join us for some friendly competition!  All supplies are provided.

Audience:  Recommended for elementary school-aged children through adults.

Date:  Wednesdays, April 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2023
Time:  10:30 a.m.
Title:  Dance Pants Party
Recommended for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary-school age kids, this simple dance program will feature “The Wheels on the Bus,” “Baby Shark,” and more. Families, it’s time to get your groove on!

Audience:  Recommended for ages 1+.

Dates: Thursdays, April 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2023
Time: 10:30 a.m.
Title: Toddler and Preschool Storytime
Description: Recommended for ages 2-5, this storytime program includes books, songs, games, and early literacy fun!
Audience: Children

Date:  Saturday, April 8, 2023
Time:  3:00 p.m.
Title:  Nathaly Alvizures “Secret Doors” Opening Reception
Nathaly’s conceptual photography is inspired by her personal experiences, as well as her three favorite artists:  the famous poet Edgar Allen Poe, the filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, and the actor Johnny Depp.  Her beautifully tender images of self-worth, struggle and intimate suffering incorporate storytelling and a sense of surrealism, and can vary from bright and saturated to dark and moody.  Come join Nathaly for a reception to celebrate her most recent exhibition!
Audience: This event is recommended for adults.  Children are welcome!

Date:  Monday, April 10, 2023
Time:  4:00 p.m.
Title:  Mission Valley Kids Book and Craft Club
Join us the second Monday of every month for an entertaining book club where we’ll discuss a great kids book, do a related craft, and enjoy snacks. The book for April is Efrén Divided, by Ernesto Cisneros.  Contact the library at 858-573-5007 for more information. 
Audience: This program is recommended for readers ages 8-11.

Date:  Tuesday, April 18, 2023
Time:  1:00 p.m.
Title:  Oasis Presents:  Bird Migration:  Marvels, Myths and Mysteries

Description:  For millennia, people have wondered at the mystery of bird migration. Why are they migrating, and how do they know how to get there?  How far can they migrate nonstop? Did you know some birds migrate by walking?  By swimming?  These little world travelers still amaze us in their annual migrations, but today we understand a lot more about how they do it (but not everything!). Join us for this fascinating exploration into bird behavior, and be entertained by the marvels of bird migration.  This event is free and open to the public, and there is no need to pre-register.

Audience:  Recommended for adults.

Date:  Friday, April 21, 2023
Time:  11:00 a.m.
Title:  Career Round Table:  An Event for Middle and High School Homeschoolers
Homeschool students will rotate through multiple tables for 15-minute Q&As with professionals in exciting and fulfilling careers, including illustration/art, software engineering, product development and design, nursing, the Navy, law, dancing, police work, firefighting, journalism, independent business entrepreneurship, and nonprofit work.  Registration is required!  Visit sandiego.librarymarket.com for more information.

Title:  Mission Valley Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting
Come learn about how the Mission Valley Friends of the Library support our mission!  This meeting is both in-person and on Zoom.  If you would like a Zoom link so that you can participate, please email [email protected].
Audience: This event is recommended for adults.  Children are welcome!

Date: Saturday, April 29, 2023
Time: 2 – 4 p.m. p.m.
Title: All Girls STEM presents:  Geography!
Location: Community Room
Description:  All Girls STEM Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that strives to ameliorate the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields by encouraging the future generation. They inspire young girls in grades 3-8 to pursue their interests in STEM fields through free events and workshops.  In April, explore the science of geography!  Pre-registration is required.  Visit sandiego.librarymarket.com for more information.  
Audience: This workshop is recommended for kids in grades 3 through 8.
