The Mission Bay girls soccer team got back to its winning ways after an 8-0 blowout home victory over Chula Vista on Monday night, which improves their record to 9-5-2 this season.
“Alaina Kwiatkowski continues to be a playmaker in the midfield,” said head coach Jorge Palacios. “Renae Miller and Jadyn Ganss have really stepped up as leaders defensively.”
Mission Bay was also led by Julia Ryan who scored twice in the win over Chula Vista after the team suffered back-to-back losses to Point Loma and Cathedral Catholic. The nine victories so far this season have already surpassed the win total from last year when the Bucs finished 8-5-4 overall.
“The team is improving as the season goes on,” Palacios added. “We expect players to continue developing and getting better in the few remaining games and we’ll go from there.”
Mission Bay made it to the playoffs last season but was eliminated in a dramatic penalty kick shootout against Rancho Bernardo. Three of the final four remaining regular season matches will be at Mission Bay including the game on Wednesday night versus Coronado.
Coronado came out with a 2-0 win the last time the two teams faced each other on Jan. 13. The only road game remaining for Mission Bay is a rematch against Point Loma on Feb. 10, which will come after the Bucs take on Christian High on Feb. 3 and Foothills Christian on Feb. 6 in their first meeting of the season. Mission Bay already faced off against Christian back on Jan. 18 coming out with a 1-0 road victory.
The Bucs look to finish with their best record since 2019-2020 when the team ended up going 17-1-3 and undefeated during the regular season before falling in the first round of the playoffs.
