“The Artificial Jungle,” a play by Charles Ludlam starring Kim Breslin, Phillip Korth, Dori Salois, Michelle Estep, Brian Evans, and Walter Ruskin, will take place March 25 to April 10 at Point Loma Playhouse at the historic Point Loma Assembly at 3035 Talbot St.

The play is set in a pet shop on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in a not well-kept shop but rather a family affair with the owners living in the back of the store. Chester and his mother are overly devoted to each other, while wife Roxanne is deeply unhappy with her lot in life. A 2-bit grifter, looking for a new score, arrives and disturbs the shaky equilibrium. Nonstop hilarity ensues. All the emotions are there – lust, greed, guilt, double entendre, silliness, ventriloquism, and, of course, murder.

A campy send-up of the film noir from the founding genius of NYC’s Ridiculous Theatrical Company. ”The Artificial Jungle” is Ludlam’s final farce, an omnibus reply to ”Double Indemnity,” and ”The Postman Always Rings Twice.”
