Shake and Wake, a San Diego-based quick-service eatery offering an array of healthy, house-made bowls, smoothies, cold-pressed juices, salads, and sandwiches, has opened its second location at 910 Grand Ave. (near Rubios).
Founded in 2014, Shake and Wake was born out of a passion for making whole food choices easily accessible and equally delicious. The concept first gained momentum as a popular weekly staple at farmer’s markets throughout South County. Opening its first brick-and-mortar location in 2017, Shake and Wake has continued its reputation as a favorite healthy dining destination in the Imperial Valley. The move into Pacific Beach marks the concept’s first move to expand, with additional plans on its radar in Southern California and Baja.
Shake and Wake’s extensive menu is centered on whole, organic foods such as acai, pitaya, goji, matcha, and more that are paired with fresh organic fruits, greens, and other toppings such as organic nut butters, shaved coconut, raw honey, agave, and bee pollen. The menu includes many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, and customization to suit dietary needs is welcomed.
“The goal for Shake and Wake is to provide healthy, quick food choices that taste great and are made from the best ingredients to everyone,” says Shake and Wake owner Jesus Ruvalcaba. “People lead such busy, active lifestyles and when they are pressed for time and on the go, they want to know they can still make food choices that make them feel good and fuel them for the rest of their day. We want Shake and Wake to provide that option to them.”
Menu favorites include the selection of power bowls, each centered on a specific house-made superfood sorbet as the base. Fresh fruit smoothies such as the Green Maquina made with pineapple, kale, chard, celery, cucumber, parsley, and a splash of orange juice, and power smoothies such as The Mayan, made with raw cacao, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, chocolate chips, banana, and almond milk add a vibrant flavor profile to these healthful selections.
The eatery also features a variety of breakfast sandwiches, made-to-order salads with from-scratch dressings, sandwiches, vegan baked goods, as well as organic, Fairtrade cold-brewed coffees, ceremonial grade matcha, and chai. Fresh, cold-pressed organic juices are stocked daily and served in glass bottles which can be returned for a $2 credit good towards your next purchase. The menu will also feature special items on a regular basis to take full advantage of seasonal produce.
The shop is open seven days a week, with current winter hours from 9 a.m.-6p.m. Shake and Wake also has a free app for ordering online. Visit https://www.shakeandwakesmoothies.com/ for more information.
