The U.S. Postal Service’s Golden Triangle postal facility at 8650 Genessee Ave. in University City will be closing at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The office’s PO Box operations will reopen for business on Saturday, Feb. 26 in a temporary structure on the grounds of the University City Post Office at 3298 Governor Drive.

Retail services at the University City Post Office will be expanded beginning Feb. 26 in order to accommodate the Golden Triangle customer traffic. University City’s retail hours are weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This temporary move is necessitated by the impending closure of the Costa Verde Shopping Center that houses the current Golden Triangle postal facility.

The temporary Golden Triangle PO Box facility at 3298 Governor Drive will maintain its current hours of operation — 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday — while continuing to serve its more than 700 PO Box customers.

In order to facilitate the move, retail operations at the current USPS Golden Triangle facility will be closed on Feb. 24 and 25. PO Box mail and parcels will, however, be available for pick up at the facility through Feb. 24. On Feb. 25, Golden Triangle PO Box mail and parcels will be available over the counter within the University City Post Office.

Street delivery services are not impacted by this move, as no mail carriers are based at the Golden Triangle facility’s 8650 Genesee Ave. location.

“We’re currently assessing our options for the establishment of a new, permanent home for our Golden Triangle operations,” said USPS retail support specialist Tonya Billingslea. “In the meantime, our priority is to maintain continuity of service to any customers affected by this relocation.

“As outlined in USPS’s Delivering for America plan, we are continually adapting to the changing needs of our customers, whether they’re located in big cities, rural hamlets or suburban communities such University City.”

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
