International networking group Team Women has made its way to Point Loma.
The small chapter meets bi-weekly for coffee and has a decidedly personal and local feel, as most of its 13 members live and work on the peninsula.
This group defies classic connotations of aggressive, competitive marketing schemes to boost sales and bucks. It does, however, offer a venue for professional women to share their trade and hopefully get a few referrals in the process.
“The peninsula is such a close-knit, unique area of San Diego,” said Jane Loveday, realtor and chapter president. She organized the first meeting on Feb. 1 and has been impressed by the turnout and unique camaraderie.
“I think women trust women,” Loveday said of group’s laid-back vibe.
Team Women Point Loma includes a realtor, hairstylist, mortgage lender, cosmetics consultant, life coach, massage therapist, personal chef, attorney, pet sitter, gas station marketing coordinator and pet treats supplier.
Meetings are a chance for members to provide showcases about their businesses and announce promotions or important events. Business cards abound and are shared among the group.
While some professions receive more referrals than others, everyone seems to get a piece of the pie. To date, the Point Loma chapter has processed 20 referrals in two months.
Team Women limits membership to one representative from any given field, with a maximum enrollment of 30. The annual dues of $249, or $5 per meeting, are used at the chapter’s discretion, usually to promote the member businesses. Guests are allowed two free meetings prior to joining.
The chapter meets next on Wednesday, May 10, at the Living Room coffee shop, 1018 Rosecrans St., from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. For more information on Team Women, visit www.teamwomen.com or contact Loveday at (619) 519-1515 or [email protected].
