The eighth annual Kids Included Together (KIT) gala benefiting children with disabilities will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the NTC Promenade at Liberty Station.
“This year, we’re honoring Mark and C’Ann McMillin of The Corky McMillin Companies for their dedication and generosity to our organization,” said Dede Knapp, KIT director of development.
The Storybook Ball gala will feature a silent auction and cocktail reception followed by a dinner, a live auction, and entertainment.
“It’s a very formal and elegant event, but fun, too,” said Knapp. “The silent and live auctions are very active.”
Mayor Jerry Sanders will present the Champions for Children Award at the event. Also attending are Ron Roberts and Greg Cox.
“We have several other awards that we cannot officially announce until the day of that will be presented by the mayor and some members of the board of supervisors,” said Adrianna Herrera, KIT associate director.
Proceeds from the Storybook Ball will directly benefit the inclusion of children with disabilities in out-of-school time programs and the creation of the Kids Included Together’s National Training Center on Inclusion.
“The Gala has already raised over $100,000,” said Herrera. “We’re having it to fund the opening of our national training center, as well as San Diego County’s first universally acceptable playground, which means that every piece of play equipment there is wheelchair accessible, even the slides.”
Kids Included Together is a non-profit organization that supports recreational, child development, and youth development programs that include children with and without disabilities. KIT works with different recreation and community programs in San Diego, training them on inclusion for disabled children.
