A number of collegiate athletes with ties to the area are winding down their spring sports seasons.
Jeff Ponsford (La Jolla High) has helped lead the University of Redlands baseball team to a 30-9 record this spring.
Ponsford to date has 36 hits, 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored for the Bulldogs.
At UCLA, Lisa Dodd (University City High) and the softball team entered play this week with a record of 42-5 (14-3 PAC-10). Dodd and the Lady Bruins visit Cal today, May 11.
To date, Dodd has a record on the mound of 15-1, while adding 30 hits and 27 RBI at the plate.
Maiya Chard-Yaron (La Jolla Country Day School) and the Columbia University women’s softball team entered play at 22-25 (4-8 Ivy League) this week.
Chard-Yaron is leading the team with a .343 batting average, with 57 hits and 17 RBI.
The San Diego Mesa College women’s softball team (27-19) placed second in the Pacific Coast Conference and earned a trip to the Regional playoffs this past weekend.
Mesa’s Lindsey Fleet (University City High) made the all-conference first-team as a freshman, while sophomore Danielle Beebe (La Jolla High) garnered honorable mention.
Caitlin Saldana (La Jolla High) was a member of the San Diego Mesa College women’s swim team this season, competing in the 50 and 100 fly events.
Joe Oliveira (University City High) and the University of the Pacific baseball team came into action this week with a record of 24-20 (5-10 Big West).
Oliveira has added 10 hits and seven RBIs for the Tigers.
