Two area high school field hockey teams are hoping to stick it to their opponents this fall.
At The Bishop’s School, head coach Kristin Davidson and the Lady Knights went 10-1-9 last season.
Key players this fall include seniors Sarah Shults, Christi Rodriguez and Cassie Dreher, along with juniors Lia Sagerman and Jeanne Vaccari.
“We are very excited about the strong numbers this season,” Davidson said. “Many of our players participated in Futures, other elite teams, camps and student-led practices throughout the summer. Stick skills and ability to use the entire field are strengths that our team is showing this early on in the season.”
Davidson added that the players have a lot of speed on the field as well as agility and are aggressive.
“We have added weight training to our program this year, which is an exciting way to improve their strength, agility and ability to handle the ball on the field,” he said.
At La Jolla High School, the Lady Vikings were 12-8 a season ago for head coach Kristy Wolfmayer. La Jolla lost to Serra in the second round of CIFs.
Key players this season include seniors Lauren Steinmetz and Sandra Harster, along with juniors Claire Mittermiller and Kaitlin Sharpe.
“This year we are working on perfecting our skills and stepping up the level of play from last year,” Wolfmayer commented. “We did not lose any seniors, which is a very good plus for this year’s team. They are also working on learning what each other’s strengths and weaknesses are and learning to help one another. We have high hopes this year and are working extremely hard to obtain our goals.”
