The Bishop’s School baseball team ran its record to 5-3 (1-0 league) last week with a close 4-3 decision over Horizon.
Patrick Swan hurled six innings, allowing no walks and striking out three, while giving up three runs. Colin Walsh had a homer and three RBIs, while Andrew Fowler added a pair of hits. Tommy Wornham pitched a perfect seventh for the save.
At La Jolla Country Day School, the Torreys tallied a 5-2 win last Thursday over Calipatria. The win raised the team’s mark to 7-4. Greg Wisenberg improved to 4-1 on the mound with the victory.
At La Jolla High, the Vikings split a pair of contests last week.
La Jolla (7-4) started the week by defeating Chula Vista 3-1 in extra innings in a non-league game.
Senior J.P. Da Luz pitched all eight innings, allowing only one unearned run and three hits. Da Luz also drove in the winning run with a suicide squeeze in the top of the eighth inning. Moose Halpern had two of the four Viking hits.
La Jolla opened up the Western League season by losing to Clairemont 8-4. The Vikings jumped on top in the top half of the first when Zach Tonks singled home Jack Peterson.
The Chieftans answered with four runs in the bottom of the first off Viking starter Casey Richmond. La Jolla closed it to 4-3, before Clairemont rallied late and put the game away.
Peterson was a bright spot for La Jolla, going 3-for-4 with an RBI in a losing cause.
La Jolla was to compete in the Lions Club Tournament this week before resuming Western League action next week. n
