Local scholastic golf teams are swinging for strong finishes as CIF play nears.
La Jolla High continues its excellent season for first-year head coach Brian Richter. The Lady Vikings entered play this week with a 12-4 overall mark, 3-3 in the Western League.
“We are hopeful of gaining an at-large berth in the CIF tournament November 7 and 8,” Richter noted. “All of our girls have shown improvement this season and each has shot a season-best score in the last two weeks.”
The Lady Vikings have been led to date by Taylor Doyle, Bridget Kilgallon, Kumiko Hayazaki, Laurel Gill, Natasha Reichart and Alexa Gonzalez. It’s the first year of competitive high school golf for both Reichart and Gonzalez, and each has shown marked improvement throughout the year, according to Richter.
At The Bishop’s School, the Lady Knights dropped a 228-231 match to neighborhood rival La Jolla High last week.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights were Denell Falk and Libby Hooton with a round of 44’s, followed by Lexi Bohlmeijer (45), Anne Williams (46), Kayla Perez (52) and Stephanie See (57).
At La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School, the Lady Torreys headed into action this week with a mark of 4-7 for head coach Bill Cahoone. The wins have twice come over Canyon Crest Academy and Westview.
LJCD shot its low round last week with a 266 versus San Dieguito Academy, while four players had their personal best rounds. Taylor Bornemann shot a 43, Kelsey Alan Lee a 47, Lizzie Ellison a 51, and Ashley Pollack a 56.
The season-ending Coastal Conference Tournament takes place Oct. 30-31.
