Several area scholastic boys water polo teams have been in the swim of things lately.
La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School (8-8 entering play this week) earned a hard-fought victory over Point Loma last Friday by a 15-13 score, avenging a tough 12-11 loss to the Pointers earlier in the week.
Down 4 -1 early in the first quarter, the Torreys came storming back in the second quarter to close within one at halftime. In the second half, LJCD played its best offensive half of the season, as seniors Ronny Clausner and Vivan Suri dominated the action, finishing with seven and five goals, resp.
Senior driver Bobby Whitney added two key goals, and junior Mike McKenna rounded out the scoring with a lone third-quarter goal. Sophomore Henry Clausner played outstanding defense on Point Loma’s best offensive player, and junior goalie Greg Wisenberg rebounded from a slow start to shut down the Point Loma attack, tallying four saves in the last two minutes of play.
La Jolla High posted a 10-8 win over rival Coronado in action last Wednesday, rebounding from a tough loss to The Bishop’s School (see below) the prior week.
At The Bishop’s School, after a hard-fought 6-5 OT win over La Jolla earlier this month, the Knights went 1-1 in action last week.
Bishop’s began the week with a 13-7 victory over Cathedral, but then ended its week with a 10-7 loss to Carlsbad.
