The boys golf teams at La Jolla High School and The Bishop’s School have been taking to the links in recent weeks.
At La Jolla High, the Vikings came into play this week for head coach Allen Merryman with a record of 8-1, 5-1 in Western League play.
Dylan Jackson has consistently been the number-one player but the Vikings have had four different low medalists.
Team captain Riley Robertson has the most second and third spots, while other solid players have included Nick Johnson, exchange student Simon Svedin from Sweden, Kevin Mulvihill, Ikaika Velasco, Cory Hunt, Brian John and Joshua Blevins. While Emil Jaboori had not yet played a match, Merryman credited his enthusiasm with the team.
“We feel good being 8-1 and we have been lucky at times against other teams, but this team seems to find a way to win,” Merryman said. “I feel we have not played the perfect match yet, but if we do, and put it all together, I think we can surprise a top 10-ranked team.”
At The Bishop’s School, head coach Billy Subang and the Knights came into play this week at 0-4.
“We are struggling with the young team I have, but we are progressing in the right direction,” Subang said. “I will continue to see them improve and their skills enhance.”
La Jolla Country Day School had a break in the action recently due to spring break.
The Torreys were slated to meet The Bishop’s School on Wednesday, April 9 as the Village News went to press.
