While hundreds of thousands of San Diego residents were forced to leave their homes, the La Jolla Community Parking District Advisory Board continued its Wednesday, Oct. 24 meeting until many residents showed up to voice their objections.

The parking board behaved no differently toward the issue “” whether to postpone the meeting or to continue it.

“They didn’t ‘feel’ it was a good time for a meeting,” said Martin Mosier, a member of the parking board.

Mosier addressed the other members, who in turn spoke to an audience that showed up; many said they were catering to family or friends who fled from the wildfires.

An alternate from La Jolla Shores cannot attend, said Sherri Lightner, who sat in the audience that voted to adjourn the meeting until next week.

“Many of us are trying to be sensitive,” said Paul Metcalf, a member of the Parking Board.

But the community disagreed. Some members of the audience said that, due to the state of emergency the rest of San Diego was experiencing, it was “highly inappropriate, if not illegal” for the board to continue with the meeting.

“They came but they’re just protecting their turf,” said Ray Weiss, who made a motion to adjourn the meeting.

After some discussion, the board passed Weiss’s motion, and the parking meeting will now take place at 9 a.m. Oct. 31 at the Hotel Parisi, 1111 Prospect St.
