To increase awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault, Pacific Beach-based nonprofit Center for Community Solutions (CCS) will host the eighth annual “Tea by the Sea” fund-raiser Wednesday, March 14.
“It’s a constant battle for CCS to increase the awareness level,” said Jennifer Whitelaw, CCS spokeswoman. “It’s something that no one likes to talk about, but we have to talk about it in the community.”
“Tea by the Sea” raises money to benefit CCS programs and also recognizes the contributions of volunteers, businesses and community members whose donations allow the center to continue to help sexual assault and relationship violence victims.
Gloria Steinem “” feminist activist, organizer, writer and lecturer “” will give an address before the event. Steinem is co-founder and publisher of Ms. Magazine and a spokeswoman for the feminist movement.
The event will be held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, 1380 Harbor Island Drive. Activities will include a champagne reception from 1 to 2 p.m., tea and program from 2 to 4 p.m. Steinem will sign copies of her book “Revolution from Within” from 4 to 5 p.m.
The Center for Community Solutions was started in 1969 and offers legal services, prevention and education to victims of rape and domestic violence.
Tickets for this event are $75 per person or $750 for a table of 10. For information, visit www.ccssd.org.
