The Torrey Pines Kiwanis has announced that its events leading up to and including the annual La Jolla Festival of the Arts raised $42,000 for adaptive sports and recreation programs for San Diegans with disabilities. “2014 was an exciting year for us,” Torrey Pines Kiwanis foundation president Peter Ballantyne said, “as we introduced two new pre-festival events (the Monarch Fine Art Gallery Desjardins Exhibition and Los Lobos – In Concert for a Great Cause) leading up to our 28th annual LJFA held this past June. There aren’t enough words of gratitude to all those that participated and contributed to our success, including our artists, entertainers, sponsors, vendors, volunteers and, of course, our visitors. We’re now planning for a wonderful 2015 LJFA.” The nonprofit festival, started in 1987, has raised more than $1.8 million to support local sports, education and recreation programs for disabled San Diegans. The more than 30 beneficiaries include Paralyzed Veterans of America, Cal Diego, Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association, City of San Diego Camp at the Bay, Kids on the Block of San Diego, La Jolla YMCA Inclusion Program, Paws’itive Teams Service Dogs and Sharp Rehabilitation Services.
The festival is funded in part by the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture. For more information, visit ljfa.org.
