Burnham’s Bode invited to Nobel Conference
Dr. Lars Bode, nutritional scientist at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research, will participate in the 57th annual Lindau Nobel Conference at Lake Constance, Germany, during the first week of July.
Bode is one of 500 attendees selected in a two-step process from among more than 10,000 young scientists worldwide.
Eighteen Nobel laureates in physiology or medicine will guide the conference.
“I am excited to meet the Nobel laureates and get the chance to interact with them closely,” Bode said. “We’ll not just listen to them but also go out to dinner in smaller groups.”
Since 1951, the weeklong forum promotes a dialogue between science and society and is an opportunity to gain more global perspectives.
“There will be scientists from all over the world and we will get the chance to make lifelong connections through the strong alumni network,” Bode said.
Bode came to La Jolla four years ago from Germany to add to his background in human nutrition and the study of glycobiology.
In collaboration with Dr. Hudson Freeze, he is working on the determination of the molecular basis of protein-losing enteropathy, a symptom of a number of life-threatening diseases.
