The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says people in all California coastal communities should be on alert, according to NBC San Diego. The advisory includes San Diego County, and the advisory states waves could rise about two feet or more in this area. The first waves are expected to hit San Francisco at 8:16 a.m., Santa Barbara at 8:24 a.m., Santa Monica at 8:39 a.m. and La Jolla at 8:48 a.m. San Diego beaches are not closed as of 5:30 a.m. New reports say, however, there is a low tide in San Diego so the stronger waves may not have as much of an impact. A magnitude 8.9 earthquake slammed Japan’s northeastern coast Friday, unleashing a 13-foot tsunami that swept boats, cars, buildings and tons of debris miles inland, according to news reports. Fires triggered by the quake burned out of control up and down the coast. At least 200-300 bodies have been found in the northeastern coastal area and there were reports of injuries in Tokyo, over 200 miles from the quake’s center. Close to 40 aftershocks measuring 5.0 or above have been recorded by the U.S. Geological Services since the 8.9 quake struck in Japan.
