A prosecutor is seeking a four-year sentence for a Pacific Beach man who pleaded guilty to manufacturing a chemical that resulted in an explosion at a marijuana dispensary, according to court records. Steve Elar Mora, 34, was going to be sentenced Oct. 9, but U.S. District Court Judge Barry Moskowitz delayed it to Dec. 4 after Mora’s attorney had a family emergency. Mora, a Pacific Beach business owner, remains free on $75,000 bond and is abiding a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. He also pleaded guilty to possession of an AR-15 assault rifle in the July 21, 2014 incident in Clairemont. The rifle was found in his residence near Mission Bay High School. No one was injured in the dispensary explosion, during which Mora was trying to extract a chemical from marijuana in a process called blasting. Mora has agreed to forfeit $1,178 in cash, the rifle, ammunition and a gun case, according to court records. Both sides agreed to the sentencing delay because Mora’s attorney had to travel to help take care of her father, who had two strokes and a heart attack.
