Fish. Food. Feel Good. (F3G), a unique nonprofit organization dedicated to feeding San Diegans in need, will hold its first “Fishing for Charities” fundraising event on Aug. 8. Executives from local charities, including Father Joe’s, San Diego Food Bank, San Diego Rescue Mission and greater San Diego Meals-on-Wheels, will board the Pacific Queen alongside Todd Bluechel, founder of F3G, for a one-and-a-half day deep-sea fishing trip to collect fish for distribution to San Diegans in need. In its first year of operation last year, F3G collected over 27,000 pounds of unwanted yellowfin, yellowtail, bluefin and albacore from sports fishermen for distribution to local charities. Full-time residents and students participating in Father Joe’s Culinary Arts Program filleted the fish, which was donated to local San Diego charities, including Father Joe’s Villages, Samoa Independent, San Diego Rescue Mission, San Diego Food Bank and the greater San Diego Meals-on-Wheels. Fisherman’s Processing also works in conjunction with F3G to collect, freeze and store the fish. A limited number of participants can also join the fishing expedition for $550 per person.
