Undy 5000 set to aid foundation They might try to keep this brief. The debut of the San Diego “Undy 5000 5K Run/Walk” will take place Saturday, March 6 At 8 a.m. at the NTC Promenade at Liberty Station in Point Loma. Organizers said the event will kick off March as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. The Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA), a national patient advocacy organization, is dedicated to ending the suffering caused by colorectal cancer, will host the event. The Undy 5000 is held in different cities across the country throughout the year. The goal is to educate the public about colon cancer, promote screenings and get people talking about the deadly, but preventable, disease. A percentage of the local proceeds will benefit the California Colorectal Cancer Coalition (C4). Organizers said the event stands out from many other 5K events because participants run in specially-designed boxer-style shorts, providing a fun way to bring attention to a serious disease. The family-oriented event is open to all ages, and will include a family fun run and children’s activities. The event takes place at Rosecrans Street and Womble Road in Point Loma.
