In a statement issued on March 29, the Bird Rock Farmers Market Committee announced that it will no longer pursue the opening of a Bird Rock Farmers Market at Mira Monte Plaza. Catt White of San Diego Weekly Markets indicated that due to delays in the process of establishing the market, the committee will move on to other projects. She said that “opening a new market is ideally accomplished at the height of the growing season,” making the delays in the process that much more critical. “Our apologies to the many Bird Rock residents who anticipated the market opening this spring, and our thanks especially to those who wrote letters and made calls in support of the market,” White wrote. “We have been assured that there are better ways of supporting Bird Rock schools — please support every one of those efforts.” The issue of the Bird Rock Farmers Market has been pulled from the agenda of the April 1 meeting of the La Jolla Traffic and Transportation Board.
