In your front-page story, “Beach alcohol ban to get 1-year trial,” (Beacon, Nov. 8), you reported that District 4 Councilman Tony Young “offered no explanation for his no vote” when the City Council approved a one-year alcohol ban at city beaches, bay shores and coastal parks on Nov. 5.”
Actually, Councilman Young would have been hard-pressed to explain why he voted against the aforementioned alcohol ban in view of the fact that his own council district is flush with a total of 26 alcohol-free public parks.
Furthermore, from among the eight city council districts, only one has more alcohol-free public parks than Council District 4.
The ban on alcohol at city beaches, bay shores and coastal parks will come up for a second reading within the next couple of weeks.
Councilman Tony Young will likely vote no again ” as well as offer no explanation for the hypocrisy of his opposition to alcohol-free public parks in Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and Ocean Beach.
